This week we learned about the amazing variety of organic molecules. These variations derive from the fact that carbon is so versatile in the number and type of bonds it can form. There are literally millions of different, stable organic molecules known to humankind and probably many millions more waiting for discovery or creation.
Then, we saw that molecules interact with each other via intermolecular forces. We will soon see the implications of these interactions in great detail when we explore properties of bulk solutions (i.e. liquids). Ultimately, much of chemistry is about how things interact, so if you have a good foundation of intermolecular forces, you can understand much of how chemical reactions begin to occur.
